CHECK OUT JINX'S SUMMER COLLABORATION WITH JACKIE !:
WIT ensemble JINX is unscripted comedy that doesn't go for the cheap punchline. We figure, you can either laugh or cry at the human condition--so have yourself a good cry, then come to a JINX show and laugh it out. We're cheaper than therapy, and funnier than a drinking binge.
![]() | A graduate of the WIT conservatory and proud member of JINX, Michael Bird has been inviting people into his imagination on stage since 2004. He got his start at the University of Texas eventually becoming the captain of the short-form student troupe, GigglePants. While in college, Bird trained at all five long-form schools in Austin including Coldtowne Theater. He also had an improv stint in Chicago to train at the Annoyance Theatre. Bird has also studied at the Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory in DC.
![]() | Jules Duffy began improvising while living in Chicago, where she studied at iO and the Second City Conservatory and improvised with Old West Family Photo and The Improvised Radio Program. When she returned to her native DC, she was delighted to find more of her kind at JINX and WIT. She loves the creativity, camaraderie, and discovery. Also, improv provides her with an interest to list beyond happy hour and The Television.
![]() | Pat Landers almost got his start in comedy in high school after auditioning for the speech team's humor category--he was put on the debate team instead. His actual start was in 2004 with Ohio State's 8th Floor, where he learned short-form improv, performed stand-up, and wrote piles of sketches that were never performed. After graduating, he moved to Virginia to work for a company that, at one time, literally (no, not figuratively) used TPS reports. Soon after, he signed up for WIT's training program and has been trading sleep for fun ever since. Joining JINX has been the most exciting thing he has done in recent memory.
![]() | Sean Murphy has been working with WIT since 2002. He is a graduate of the WIT training program, is a founding member of the long form improv ensemble JINX, and credits WIT for giving him the courage to embark on an acting career. Sean has had small roles on HBO's The Wire, Court TV's Missing Persons Unit, and the Kennedy Center's production of Die Walkure. He was also the lead in the well received short film, Offline. One of Sean's most personally momentous credits was being an extra on the Coen Brothers project, Burn After Reading. Sean also needs to get over himself.
![]() | Once someone told Aparna Nancherla not to quit her day job. So in order to achieve this lofty goal, she a) got a day job and b) held onto it for dear life. No, but seriously folks, Aparna adores all things comedy. Beginning with stand up, she made a niche for herself as willing to work for styrofoam peanuts. However, ever seeking to get better, one day after a exhaustive Google search on "improving (as a comedian)", she ended up at the WIT website, and then in WIT classes. Long story longer, she socially climbed her way into the arms of JINX. Huzzah to anyone who read this in its entirety. Bonus points for the gung ho attitude.
![]() | Michelle Guardino Swaney is an Italian girl from Staten Island, New York. And she’s a lawyer. Terrified yet? Good. Sometime in the past, Michelle performed with Boston College's improv troupe, My Mother's Fleabag, and she later played with East Bay Improv in California. Then, citing creative differences with her inner child, she accidently put her creative self on extended hiatus while she started a career. But as with all complicated relationships, she couldn't stay away. So shortly after moving to DC in 2006, Michelle signed up for WIT's training program and fell in love with improv all over again. Besides being delighted to be a JINXee, Michelle is proud to be a part of WIT’s Jackie, 2008 FIST champs Polygamy, and 2009 FIST champs Not Mad. Disappointed. That one guy laughing at all her jokes, that’s her husband Steve.
![]() | In fourth grade Greg Tindale told his math teacher that when he grew up he wanted to be an architect or a stand up comic. Greg has grown up and now he is a real estate agent and an improvisational comedic actor. Other dreams Greg had as a ten year old that he came really close to fulfilling but failed to succeed at include owning a copy of XMen #1, flying a space ship with Chewbacca, and wrestling Hacksaw Jim Duggan for the Intercontinental Belt. A habitual athlete, in 2005, Greg realized there is no glory in organized sports for adults and decided to hang up the cleats. Improv now fulfills his need to be part of a team. Greg still jumps rope for an hour before every JINX show to loosen up.
